ABOUT KANSAS MENTORS

OUR MISSION

Kansas Mentors is not a mentoring program, rather it is an initiative designed to connect existing mentoring programs with each other and serve as a resource center for communities wishing to start a program.

The purpose of Kansas Mentors is to promote the great mentoring opportunities in Kansas and find ways to recruit more Kansans to be a part of these efforts. All children deserve a caring adult role model in their lives to support and guide them; our mission is to help make this a reality.

PLAN OF ACTION

Kansas Mentors will continue to be flexible in order to meet the changing needs of our fellow Kansans and mentoring partners. Below is a tentative outline of our plan of action, but this list will grow. We are currently in Phase I, so please continue to check back to learn about new developments.

PHASE I: KANSAS MENTORS LAUNCH

Launch www.ksmentors.ks.gov
Continue to build our mentoring partners database

PHASE II: MENTORING COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT

Establish a Council of Mentors, comprised of leaders of mentoring efforts around Kansas, to help guide current mentoring programs and provide help for communities looking to start one
Council of Mentors develops and distributes “Best Practices” -- guidelines that successful mentoring partners can follow
Council of Mentors develops and distributes a toolkit providing communities the resources they need to establish a mentoring program
Establish a Council of Leaders: This Council, made up of leaders in the public and private sectors throughout the state, will look for ways to promote mentoring in their organizations

PHASE III: IMPLEMENTATION

Implement the Best Practices and Toolkit
Announce the Council of Leaders
Implement Council of Leaders’ recommendations

PHASE IV: ON-GOING

On-going meetings: Council of Mentors and Council of Leaders
On-going statewide effort to aid our mentoring partners and promote mentoring
