Coaches' Mentoring Challenge

The National Mentoring Partnership has identified that there are 15 million children in our nation that are in need of a caring and quality mentors.   Thousands of these children live in Nebraska and Kansas.  In an effort to help close this “mentoring gap”, former Coaches Tom Osborne and Bill Snyder, both mentoring advocates, have issued a friendly challenge to each other’s state—to see which state can sign up the most new mentors this summer and fall.   The winning state will be announced at the K-State versus Nebraska football game on November 15, 2008.

Both coaches lead mentoring efforts in their states.  This competition is being overseen by Osborne’s Teammates program and Snyder’s Kansas Mentors program.

There are three ways you can help your state win this challenge.
  1. Sign up for more information about mentoring in your community.  Click here to sign up.
  2. Refer friends and family members.  If you currently serve as a mentor, you can also help by e-mailing friends and family members this information and encouraging them to sign up.
  3. Get your employer involved.  Many companies work with schools or mentoring programs in their communities to allow their employees to experience the joys of mentoring.  Click here to request information for how your employer/business can help with this effort.
